The Ghan International Film Festival Australia (GIFFA) is a festival
dedicated to showing films made by and about Afghanistan.

The Ghan International Film Festival Australia (GIFFA) is a festival dedicated to showing films made by and about Afghanistan. Proceeds from the festival will be donated to earthquake victims in Afghanistan. This year, two remarkable feature-length films will be presented.

Afghanistan: the Greek Connection
The SA Afghan community came here under duress and are making great contributions to working and cultural life, like so many SA migrants before them. And among those cultural gifts is the 2023 Ghan International Film Festival running from 28-29 October at the Mercury Cinema.
When we think of the plight of Afghanistan there is sadness. But one brilliant Greek filmmaker had a better idea – laughter is the best medicine !

Made by celebrated Greek film director Annette Papathanassiou, it will screen at the Mercury Cinema  on Saturday 28 October.

Watandar tells the story of a Hazara man who fled Afghanistan due to centuries of persecution and oppression, to not only find freedom and safety, but to also continue serving the motherland. This is a story of survival, hope and the fight for a better and brighter future.
